Queensway Shines at Thetford Cluster Swimming Gala
Back
On Thursday, 20th November, ten enthusiastic Year 5 pupils from Queensway proudly represented their school at the Thetford Cluster Swimming Gala, held at Thetford Leisure Centre. This annual event brought together six primary schools from across the town, creating a vibrant atmosphere of competition, camaraderie, and sporting spirit.
From the moment the gala began, our pupils demonstrated the values we hold dear at Queensway: resilience, determination, and teamwork. Each race was an opportunity for them to push themselves, support one another, and showcase the skills they have been developing in their swimming lessons. For many, this was their first experience of competing in a formal swimming event, and they rose to the challenge with confidence and enthusiasm.
The competition was fierce, with every school striving for success. Despite the pressure, our team remained focused and positive, cheering each other on from the poolside and celebrating every effort. Their hard work paid off, as we achieved an impressive set of results: one 1st place finish, two 2nd places, and four 3rd places overall. These achievements are a testament not only to the talent of our pupils but also to their perseverance and commitment to doing their best.
Beyond the awards and rankings, what stood out most was the sense of unity and pride among the team. They embodied the true spirit of sport—supporting peers, respecting competitors, and striving for personal improvement. Events like the Thetford Cluster Swimming Gala are invaluable in helping children develop confidence, resilience, and a love for physical activity, all of which contribute to their overall wellbeing and success.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 5 representatives and grateful to the staff and parents who supported them throughout the day. Their achievements reflect the strength of our school community and the opportunities we provide for pupils to excel beyond the classroom. As we look ahead, Queensway remains committed to offering enriching experiences that inspire every child to aim high, work hard, and believe in themselves.
